Jorge Castaño

Jorge Castaño is an agricultural engineer, a graduate of the Faculty of Agronomy, University of Buenos Aires, in February 1980. At that same faculty, he served as a lecturer in the Forage Department from 1979 to 1983. From 1983 until his retirement in 2020, he worked as a technical researcher at the Balcarce Agricultural Experimental Station (EEA Balcarce) of INTA (National Institute of Agricultural Technology), where he carried out research, teaching, development, and technology transfer activities in the area of Pasture Production and Utilization. In 1992, he obtained a Master’s degree in Animal Production, awarded by the National University of Mar del Plata. He has produced numerous publications (books, book chapters, and articles in national and international journals), has taught specialized courses, and has participated in and organized congresses, seminars, and conferences related to his field. On several occasions, he received scholarships from INTA and other international institutions to pursue training and professional development abroad (in the USA, Denmark, New Zealand, Germany, Spain, and Mongolia). He served as Coordinator of the National Project on Technologies for the Production of Quality Forage Seed at INTA from 2006 to 2013, and in his final years at the institution, he was Head of the Pasture Group and later Coordinator of the Animal Production Research Area at EEA Balcarce. He is currently an Invited Professor in the Diploma in Animal Production at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, University of the Enterprise (UDE), Montevideo, Uruguay, and a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, National University of Mar del Plata. Since 2020, he has been working as a Private Consultant for companies and producers.
