Dr. Marouane Louhichi is a researcher at the Wildlife and Livestock Laboratory at the Arid Regions Institute (IRA) in Medenine, Tunisia. He obtained his PhD in Biology from the Faculty of Sciences of Gabès in 2024, with research focusing on wildlife ecology and conservation in arid ecosystems.
His work primarily addresses the conservation of threatened ungulates such as the scimitar-horned oryx (Oryx dammah) and the dorcas gazelle (Gazella dorcas), with a particular emphasis on dietary ecology, habitat selection, and mechanisms of coexistence. He has extensive experience in applied ecology, wildlife monitoring, and the use of quantitative approaches, including ecological modeling, spatial analysis, and dietary assessment through faecal markers and microhistology.
Dr. Louhichi has authored and co-authored several scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals, including Animals, Ecology and Evolution, and the Journal of Arid Environments. He has also collaborated on interdisciplinary projects addressing biodiversity conservation, sustainable management of natural resources, and human–wildlife interactions in North African arid lands.
